New York City’s designs come from the “ADU for You” Pre-Approved Plan Library, published by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. They are the city’s own answer to the question of what a legal accessory unit can look like here, and they apply across the five boroughs.

New York is the market where the design is the smaller problem.
